Psychological Evaluations and Effective Advocacy: Practical Advice for Parents of School-Aged Children

Dr. Brendan Pratt

Parents often have their children undergo comprehensive educational or psychological evaluations, but they may be left wondering what it all means and what they can do about it. Dr. Pratt will explain how to understand the results of an evaluation and how to translate those results into an effective educational plan. He will discuss the details of an IEP team meeting including the perspective of the various participants. He will then give parents practical suggestions for educational advocacy. He also will be available to answer questions from the audience.

Dr. Pratt is a licensed psychologist who specializes in psychological evaluations, educational advocacy and school placement assistance. He is the past president of the Santa Clara County Psychological Association and has been on the Board of Directors of the California Psychological Association. He also co-authored the book, Parents' Guide to School Selection in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties (2006).
