Testimonials
“When my son entered third grade he was reading at a first grade level. After just six weeks at The Reading Clinic, he was up to grade level. I couldn't believe how easy it was for him to get, and how much he enjoyed the whole process.”
-Cooper Raphael,
Mother
“The Reading Clinic has instilled confidence in several of my students. Children in my class have graduated from the clinic and actually taught some reading in the classroom. It's similar to giving a child glasses to read. It can make a world of difference!”
-Aileen Carew,
2nd Grade Teacher
“After six weeks, the results were miraculous. Not only could he read, he wanted to read. The LIPS® Program addressed Spencer's particular learning needs and gave him the tools necessary to become a good reader. The Reading Clinic completely transformed him from a boy who was becoming withdrawn and increasingly frustrated with school, to a boy who is now confident, happy, and enthusiastic about learning. This past summer, Spencer won third place in a writing contest.”
-Debra Maddox, Mother/Educational Consultant
“For the first time in my life something in school is coming naturally. It's easier for me to follow lectures, understand key concepts and complete my homework. I can concentrate and understand the main idea. On the October SATs I even felt the reading comprehension part was sort of... well... fun. I no longer dread reading but actually find it entertaining.”

Fluency Workshop
A Step-by-Step Approach

We Strengthen:
- Reading Rate
- Reading Accuracy
- Expressive Reading
- Reading Aloud
- Word Recognition
- Word Attack Skills
- Vocabulary
Some readers have difficulty reading smoothly, accurately and with expression. The Reading Clinic’s Fluency Workshop teaches the skills necessary for students to become fluent readers. This program is a systematic approach that stimulates word recognition, develops word attack skills, and exposes students to daily “fluent” reading.
By charting their words read per minute on short passages, students become aware of their reading rate and accuracy. They also discover that reading as quickly as possible does not increase fluency. By practicing re-reading these passages, students “get the feel” of fluent reading and so can learn how to use expression to convey meaning. Students also read contextually from their own choice of books, continuing to self monitor by charting their accuracy. In addition, the Fluency Workshop uses elements of our reading and Morphology programs to improve word recognition and vocabulary. Students take home their workbook guide and accompanying materials to use as a continuing resource.
