Testimonials
“When my son entered third grade he was reading at a first grade level. After just six weeks at The Reading Clinic, he was up to grade level. I couldn't believe how easy it was for him to get, and how much he enjoyed the whole process.”
-Cooper Raphael,
Mother
“The Reading Clinic has instilled confidence in several of my students. Children in my class have graduated from the clinic and actually taught some reading in the classroom. It's similar to giving a child glasses to read. It can make a world of difference!”
-Aileen Carew,
2nd Grade Teacher
“After six weeks, the results were miraculous. Not only could he read, he wanted to read. The LIPS® Program addressed Spencer's particular learning needs and gave him the tools necessary to become a good reader. The Reading Clinic completely transformed him from a boy who was becoming withdrawn and increasingly frustrated with school, to a boy who is now confident, happy, and enthusiastic about learning. This past summer, Spencer won third place in a writing contest.”
-Debra Maddox, Mother/Educational Consultant
“For the first time in my life something in school is coming naturally. It's easier for me to follow lectures, understand key concepts and complete my homework. I can concentrate and understand the main idea. On the October SATs I even felt the reading comprehension part was sort of... well... fun. I no longer dread reading but actually find it entertaining.”

Study Skills Workshop
and Development of Executive Function

We Strengthen:
- Independent Study Skills
- Executive Functioning Skills
- Time Management
- Organization Skills
- Background knowledge
- Note taking
- Text Highlighting
- Using graphic organizers
Many students know how to read well, but have difficulty with textbook assignments. In a ten-hour period, The Reading Clinic's Study Skills Workshop helps children in 4th through 8th grades to manage and organize their study time using their actual social studies curriculum. Students soon discover that reading textbooks well the first time means less rereading and cramming for tests later.
Using the California Social Studies Standards for content, students explore maps and timelines to find out and improve upon what they already know, developing background knowledge and recall. They make and fill in their own graphic organizers to understand both textbook structure and history. Students get experience with both highlighting text and then making notes. Students take home their workbook guide and accompanying materials to use as a continuing resource.
